Altar

The altar is the sacred table of the Christian people. Its' square shape invites the faithful to gather equally at the Banquet of the Lord. The altar is one of the focal points of the gathered assembly. It is the place where the Church commemorates the Last Supper and the Sacrifice of the Lord at Calvary. Because the altar is the symbol of Christ, who is both the "altar and the Lamb of Sacrifice," the top of the altar is inlaid with a mahogany and walnut "X", the first letter in the Greek word Christ.
